Dean, I'm trying Magic Action box on our new Wordpress web site. So
far, so good. One question, though. I can't find anywhere on your site
that would explain how I can add an Opt-in form to my SideBar area.
You show how to add an opt-in form to a Post, but how can I add an
opt-in as a widget in the Sidebar? I can see a sidebar form in your
training video, but cannot figure out how to do it. Thanks!
I'm Ryann, lead developer for Magic Action Box (MAB).
To answer your question about adding an opt-in form to the sidebar,
short answer is, you can't. But, there's a reason for that. actually you
could add one by using the shortcode [magicactionbox id="ACTIONBOX ID"]
(if you're using version 2.8) but the resulting form probably wouldn't
look very nice out of the box as the action boxes weren't meant to be
used on the sidebar. But a little bit of css can fix that though.
Anwyay, the main reason is that MAB was created specifically to make it
very easy to implement two very effective marketing strategies. none of
which involve the sidebar. But, instead of talking about these
strategies here, I'd like to invite you to check out the original
article instead :)
as for the sidebar optin form in the training video, it's actually
custom made and isn't an action box. sorry for the confusion. and just
so you know, that sidebar optin form only accounts for 1% of all
newsletter subscriptions for that site
OK, that makes sense.
I now have a follow-on question.
Suppose I want to start with one of your standard layouts (e.g. Default), and then tweak the colors, fonts, etc.
I assumed that I could set the box using the standard style, then switch to User Settings and customize it.
That, however, does not seem to work.
What am I doing wrong? How can I tailor the standard layouts (other than trying to copy every single setting in the long list of design options)?
Actually, we are still working on adding that feature. But, glad you
asked as that gives us more reason to prioritize that feature (we have a
lot of feature ideas so we have to prioritize the ones that give more
value to most number of users). For now though, your best bet of
customizing any one of the preconfigured styles/layouts is through the
Custom CSS box..
